Our Balboa journey continues together with this third and FINAL Balboa series of 2023. You don't want to miss them! You never know when they'll come back around. ![]() These courses are selected by our Intermediate students and change each series. Our classes all follow a well-thought out curriculum, and are extremely upbeat and fun. Our three instructors have over 55 years of combined teaching experience. Lindy By The Sea group classes include: East Coast Swing and Lindy Hop, as well as featured classes in Balboa, Collegiate Shag, 1920s Charleston, Performance, and more. Before dancing with someone who chooses to wear a mask, please put yours on. Our Mask Etiquette: Bring a mask to all of our classes and dances and keep it with you. But we do ask that you don't drop in for the 3rd or 4th weeks in a beginner class (Levels 1, 2 & 3). The price is $20 for a single one-hour lesson. Then the next series they repeat Level 1 and add on Level 2. Most people, who are absolute beginners, just start with Level 1. Yes! As a matter of fact you get BIG discount on additional Courses taken in the same Series. MAY I TAKE MORE THAN ONE COURSE AT A TIME? It doesn't matter which Series ("A" or "B") you start your Level 1 and Level 2 learning with. We want our students to develop really solid basics, so our Level 1 and Level 2 Courses are designed to span 2 Series (an "A" and "B" Series.) These "A" and "B" Series reinforce the same fundamentals in weeks 1 & 2 and provide completely new material in weeks 3 & 4. ![]() WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEN LEVEL 1 A & B? East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing and Country Swing.OUR CURRENT SERIES OF COURSES (Through May 18th)ħpm - Intermediate Lindy Hop / The Track (Green)Ī Series is a 4-week period of time during which several Courses are offered.Ī Course consists of 4 one-hour Lessons/Classes (one each week during a Series) on a single topic.Įxample: Our Beginner / Level 1 Lindy Hop Course at 7pm on Thursdays starting Jan 6. At the date of this article, the first recorded use of the name west coast swing that we could find was in 1957 The history of west coast swing is a little less clear but is generally traced to Dean Collins moving from California to New York and teaching his version of swing in the 1950’s. Finally they gave in and a chain of studios adopted East Coast Swing into their syllabus around 1942. Dance studios at the time hoped that this swing craze would go away. Many different forms of swing popped up all over the country none more prevalent than Lindy Hop. Swing dancing came from swing music, a form of jazz in the 1920’s and 1930’s. So we don’t have the knowledge to go into the history of each swing dance style but here are a couple basics. You can learn the basics of country swing in this video. Beyond that it’s a fun free for all with plenty of dips and tricks thrown in for fun. The one common chararistic is two steps followed by a rock step. It’s a 4 count dance but has many regional differences in how it’s done.
